Are you interested in leading a Beaver Colony for 6-8 year olds? Then being a Beaver Team Lead may be the place for you!
The Beaver Team Lead makes sure the team plans, delivers and runs a fun, quality programme, makes sure the team shares tasks and makes sure that Scouting is safe and inclusive for everyone.
You can see what the team you’ll lead does below. As the Beaver Team Lead you would be expected to delegate tasks to your team and make sure everything gets done. If this role interests you or you’d like to know more, please get in touch.

Plan and Deliver a great programme
- Work with young people to plan and deliver a great programme, including nights away and adventurous activities
- Help Beavers earn their top award – The Chief Scout’s Bronze Award
- Find ways to continue to improve the programme
- Tailor the programme to the needs of your Beaver Colony
- Include community members to help run programme nights
Make sure there’s a great culture for all
- Help young people and volunteers feel welcome and included, and make changes (when necessary) so the environment and activities are accessible for everyone.
- Mentor volunteers in the team and help them develop, including Young Leaders.
- Check volunteers behave positively and in line with Our Volunteering Culture.
Communicate with others
- Talk with Parents/Carers and Young People about the programme
- Keep Parents/Carers well informed about what is happening in your section
- Help young people move between sections
Make sure admin is done correctly
- Get contact and medical details for new members.
- Keep all records up to date, including badges, attendance register & contact details.
- Give the Group Trustee Board the information they need to set the budget
Create a safe environment
- Create a safe environment for young people by sharing the Yellow Card with parents and carers and the Orange Card with Young Leaders. Ensure all members of the team follow the safe scouting cards and brief helpers on the practical aspects of safety and safeguarding.
- Check the programme can run safely.
- Make sure adult:child safeguarding ratios are always maintained and there’s a leader in charge for each session.
- Create and review risk assessments.
- Check there are first aid kits or supplies for all activities.
- Review safety incidents and report them in the right way.
- Report any safeguarding concerns directly to the UKHQ Safeguarding Team
