Volunteer as a Young Person (14-18)
Young People aged 14-18 can also volunteer in Scouting and the leadership team of a section. Young Leaders must be part of a Young Leaders unit and are usually Explorer Scouts looking for a new challenge.
Young people from outside of Scouting can also volunteer with Scouts if they are working on their Duke of Edinburgh awards or the Queen’s Guide Award.
Young Leaders Scheme (14-18)
Explorer Scout Young Leaders are Explorers who volunteer alongside adult volunteers in Squirrel Dreys, Beaver Colonies, Cub Packs or Scout Troops. They play an active role in the section, bringing a range of fresh ideas to the table and acting as positive role models for the young people they work alongside.
It contains 11 modules and four missions for them to work through whilst volunteering in their chosen section. Modules give Young Leaders the skills and knowledge to be successful in their role, while missions allow them to put everything into practice with support.
As well as developing valuable life skills, the scheme is an opportunity for Explorers to make a positive impact in their communities and to fulfil the service elements of many of the top awards in Scouts, or their Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.
Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) (14-25)
Whether you are already part of a DofE programme or want to get involved, Scouts is one of the biggest providers of the programme in the UK.
Young people build their own custom DofE programme; choosing from a range skill based and physical challenges, volunteering opportunities and expeditions. This links in Scouts top awards like the Chief Scout’s Gold, Platinum, Diamond and Kings awards as well as the young leaders scheme.
They can also volunteer in Scouts to complete their volunteering challenges.
Queens Guide Award
(16-30)
You can also complete the volunteering section of the Queens Guide Award with Scouts. This can be part of the Volunteer Guiding Challenge but may also link in to all the other aspects of the award.
You can also go for both the Queens Guide award and the DofE awards at the same time.
